Caja School Gardens
Exceptional Learning Opportunities
Caja school gardens provide students of all ages with outstanding opportunities to incorporate lessons on science, language, engineering, math, arts, history, culture, and more into their curriculum.
Gardens create opportunities for students to connect with growers across the city or across the continent. Ask us more about our Twin Garden Concept.
Millikin Mills High School
In 2016, The Growing Connection was able to help Milliken Mills High School create a sustainable and productive garden on a very short timeline. After receiving notice of successful grant funding and project approval, this school garden was able to organize 100 Caja planters, including soil, fertilizer, and transplants within 2 weeks.
The school could not dig or plant in the ground due to the short time frame to test for safety, soil contamination, and fertility, as well as avoiding delays due to permitting or other approvals.

Burrows Hall Junior Public School
In 2017, Burrows Hall pioneered the concept of taking the garden home due to the challenges of keeping the garden properly watered during the summer holiday months. They invited students and staff to take a box (or two) home, enjoy the produce during the prime growing season, and then return the box in the fall. This allowed for continuous hands-on experiential learning and ensured the hard work of setting up and planting the garden in the spring wouldn’t go to waste.
